Our current generation is passing through such a phase where the technical and innovative minds of the entire globe are busy finding the non conventional sources of energy and promoting the usage of the same.
Global wind power installations increased by 35,800 MW in 2010, bringing total installed capacity up to 194,400 MW, a 22.5% increase on the 158,700 MW installed at the end of 2009 which accounts for a total of €47.3 billion (US$65 billion) investment.
There are some non-technical barriers to the widespread use of renewables, and it is often Public Policy and Political Leadership that helps to address these barriers and drive the wider acceptance of renewable energy technologies.
The state of Gujarat has the highest wind power potential in the country i.e. 9675 MW. In order to harness this potential, the State Government introduced policies for offering incentives to the sector in 1993, 2002 and 2007. At present, the State has the third highest generation capacity in the country.
The Government is keen on development of renewable energy sector, given the dwindling resources of fossil fuels, increased threat of global warming and the concern on environmental protection. The state is blessed with long coast line and good wind speeds for harnessing of the Wind Energy. The State of Gujarat is committed to have investment in Clean and Green Energy to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions. To accelerate the investment in this sector, the state Government has announced a New Wind Power Policy-2007.
According to which any company or body corporate will be eligible for setting up of Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs). The WTGs installed commissioned during the operative period of the scheme i.e. 20th June 2007 to 30th June 2012, shall become eligible for the incentives declared under this policy, for a period of twenty years from the date of commissioning or for the lifespan of the WTGs, whichever is earlier.
For the potential site selection criteria, the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has identified that the WTGs can be set up at various sites within the state. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is to be done between the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) and the eligible power producing unit.
All these facts indicate that Gujarat State is having a profound platform for the development of Wind Power Generation. The Sheth Group of Company has identified many options of the land required for this purpose and posses the government influence if needed to successfully start the Wind Power Generation Unit.
